Hi! We are Scott and Deborah. We travel the country in our "shanty van" called Loki. We travel everywhere we can, with as little as we can, and write about how we do it along the way. We first started our travel and blogging journey back in April, 2000 with Taking the RoadTrek to the Florida Keys and now a few decades later we feel like we are still are just getting started.

Travel History

Over the years, we have traveled together in so many different vehicles—boats, bikes, kayaks, motorcycles, RV's, cars, trucks, trains, buses—all with the idea that we could do this on virtually no budget, because that’s the budget we had available. Our first adventure in the "shanty" life began when we bought a Greyhound bus and converted it into a motorhome circa 2000, and we have been doing that type of thing ever since.

After so many years of doing this together, we finally decided to compile all this information and knowledge into one website where we could share our experiences and insights with others. This is what eventually became this site, Shanty Travelers.

Here you will find our past projects and our current adventures, which right now includes a lot of us working on converting our Ford E-250 Econonline, Loki, into a camper van and taking it out on new adventures.

Our photography is something we have used to document our lives for a long time, so we have a lot of photos we post here, some of them will eventually become "Shanty Travelers Postcards" on our shop but other than that our goal is to share useful, ad-free content without the clutter or sales noise.
